2D Work
Usually acrylic on: paper, board, canvas and on to walls (my fave) or any other surface that beckons!
Recurring themes (possibly obsessions!) are :dancing, musicians, queuing, hammocks, beach-life, the catering industry ,people eating and relaxing.
Exhibited, sold and for sale.
I just love pattern-making, colour texture, illusion, repeats, overlays. Not keen on florals, prefer abstract and geometric arrangements and circles, dots, stripes…
Food illustration is a speciality
I love to cook and literally relish unusual ingredients. I illustrated the Guardian food page for a while, but my first food illustration was for The Illustrated London news and was very red -an Italian Tomato soup.. For one drawing/collage I had to resort to ‘embelished’ photocopying of a squid ( the main ingredient) as time was tight .. it worked quite well !
Sometimes I include little photos of my friends faces in the recipe- e.g. Sadia ’s smiling face is swimming in the chocolate sauce of a silky ice-cream recipe .I’m all for a jolly surprise in newspapers !
From new Orleans jazz to a Dervis in Paris to familiar faces floating in chocolate sauce, you never know what you will be researching next as an illustrator.
Includes work for: The Guardian Food Page, International Hairdressers Journal, Unifree (in -flight magazine) and numerous trade mags.
